Charity and Community

DESS Community Charity Committee

Our aim is to raise awareness and involve the school community in activities to support local and international charities and we believe that our combined efforts and contributions can make a difference in the community.

We are excited to share details of a new fundraising campaign we have launched at DESSC, in partnership with United World Schools (UWS) and Dubai Cares. United World Schools is a UK-based charity whose mission is to ‘Teach the Unreached’. They build schools in rural communities where access to education is very limited.

In support of their mission, DESSC are hoping to fundraise 180,000 AED this academic year to fund the construction of a new school in rural Cambodia. As an inclusive institution ourselves, we believe that all children deserve the opportunity to a quality education and therefore we are excited to support UWS in their mission. We hope you will join us in supporting this campaign.

The charity committee meets regularly to organise and discuss key fundraising events that are continuous throughout the whole year.

Our Key Stage 2 children strive high to promote our events and are keen to have the DESS school community take part in the fundraising.

Our fundraising efforts so far over the years have been raising awareness for The Royal British Legion by selling poppies and wristbands. Our charity and community committee went over to Dubai Centre for Special Needs to help them make festive decorations for them to sell at their Winter Fair. We also organised a Christmas Book Drive by collecting nearly 365 secondhand books which were donated to Al Noor and lastly with the help of our parents, donations were raised during the DESStive Charity Bake Sale and International Day with all proceeds donated to local charitable organisations.
